Roy T. Bennett
I worked within the NHS primary care service for ten and a half years providing one to one sessions and group therapy for those experiencing mild to moderate difficulties. Initially I worked using guided self help techniques before qualifying as a cognitive behavioural therapist.
I have worked within the private sector for six years, initially delivering cognitive behavioural therapy for adults. I am now qualified to provide eye movement desensitisation reprocessing (EMDR) to people aged thirteen years old and over. I am also qualified to work with children and young people using CBT and EMDR.
I am a British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP) accredited therapist.
Below is an overview of the therapies I can offer. Both therapies can help manage Depression, Anxiety, Generalised Anrxiety (GAD), OCD, phobias, low self-esteem, panic disorder, PTSD. Both therapies are recommended by NICE as effective treatments.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
CBT considers the trigger or situation that brings around thoughts, emotions, behaviours and physical sensations that impact on how the person feels. The aim of CBT is to provide techniques or tools to help the person manage how they feel and break the maintenance cycle that may have developed, allowing the person to experience improved mood and/or reduced anxiety levels.
Eye movement desentisation reprocessing (EMDR)
EMDR uses bilateral stimulation, in the form of eye movement, tapping or sounds; in order to get both sides of the brain working together, it is believed to be similar to REM (rapid eye movement) in sleep. The process unlocks the trauma memory or difficulty trapped in one network and links with the answers stored in another network of the brain.
Both CBT and EMDR are client centred therapies. Sessions are non-judgemental, it is the person's own pesonal experience, confidential and guided by the person's own goals.
Therapy can be delivered face to face, I have a therapy cabin in the garden, or home visits can be arranged. Telephone and Zoom sessions are also available.
